  • The Estate features one screened sleeping porch and another open deck area on this side on the home. Perfect for restful afternoons and sleepy White Mountain dreams.
  • The grounds surrounding this Barn Style property are ever blooming spring thru fall. Lupines, Lupines and more Lupine will be enjoyed by all during the Annual Fields of Lupine Festival every June.
  • Historically significant and available for your Vacation Rental enjoyment, "The Butternut" will enable you to live like a movie star. This property was orginally commissioned for one of America's Leading Ladies. Look closely at the following photos and you may figure out who we speak of.
  • They are so many wonderful options to choose from for restings, relaxing and recharging while away at Butternut. Here's another ole favorite- The Hammock.
  • From either the master bedroom of or the thrid sitting level o fhte Silo you will enjoy a wonderful view down onto Streeter Pond and the meadow immediately below. This meadow features some great walking paths!!
  • The interior of Butternut has been lovingly maintained and re-finished as the more modern elements have been added. Enjoy the Old School fashion and feel with a current period set of amenaties.
  • The home is bascially split into two sides by the Massive fireplace and chimney that splits is the middle. This would be the Kitchen, Dining and sitting area side, fireplace and woodstove included.
  • This would be standing in the Living Area looking down toward the Kitchen-Dining area. The main floor of this home is quite large!
  • The Old New England style of the Butternut decor and design have been wonderfully maintained since the home's commissioning. Don't forget, it was built for a movie star.
  • Lots and lots of room is what to expect out of Butternut Lodge. This is a great shot of the sitting and kitchen areas as you look past toward theformal living area.
  • As can be clearly seen here- the cook is still in the center of the action with Butternut's open and airy floor plan. Lots of light and connectivity to the Nature of New Hampshire can be expected.
  • Live in Hollywood style and fall asleep as an American icon once did in this great space. There certainly are lots of windows filled with great White Mountain views.
  • The 'Betty Davis Suite'... after-all this home was built just for her.
  • If you are wondering what that grand canopy bed is looking at, well here you go. The right side door once lead to a massive walk-in closet where the left is the Lieu. The sleeping porch is also off to the right-hand side and out of sight here.
  • The second bedroom of Butternut was once a library, however now it features 2 full size beds with lots of room between them.
  • All this talk about an American icon and Hollywood star and not so much of a clue as to who... Oh but wait a minute. Who's that on the wall over there?
  • Outfitted with 2 twin beds, this is the third bedroom within Butternut's interior. Outside of this bedrooms door is the open summer porch as seen in the exterior photo of the "Shade Side" of things.

This inviting Sugar Hill home, built by actress Bette Davis in 1940, retains the character of that grand era while accommodating family and friends in modern style. Located three miles from Franconia on 22 private, wooded acres overlooking the White Mountains, it is attractively furnished with country antiques, accessories and artworks. The spacious main floor boasts beamed ceilings, random width pine floors, four picture windows, two grand fireplaces highlighting the living & kitchen/dining areas, an enclosed porch, and full bath.     The Butternut Lodge was a great place to stay for a close family. The main floor has 2 gorgeous fireplaces and plenty of space to socialize. The flow of the upstairs is a bit challenging unless you are close with the group. One has to walk though bedrooms to get to bathrooms. But great location!
